Soundfont File Format:
The soundfont file format is a tab-delimited text file that only contains ASCII characters (no binary characters) and no line-breaks. The first line of the file contains the number of channels. The next lines of the file represent the channels. Each line starts with an “f” to denote a sample, “c” to denote a note, or “r” to denote a rest.
In SF2COMP the samples are named sequentially and end with a *.sf2 extension. The compressed soundfont files are named sequentially and end with a *.zd2 extension. In SF2COMP the rest samples are just named “r”.
Special Line:
The special line can be used to have SF2COMP write the samples into another file. This special line is not present in a standard soundfont file, but is contained in all SF2COMP files.
Samples must be consecutive, i.e. every line must begin with an “f”. If a line doesn’t begin with an “f”, SF2COMP will delete it.
An SF2COMP example (that decompiles to sfx files) can be downloaded from the site below. This example file can be copied to a soundfont created by SF2COMP, but then SF2COMP must be used to convert it to sfx files.
