IMPORTANT: SSRS Security Manager was previously known as Report Manager. However, we no longer refer to Report Manager when we make changes to this product. You will see references to the name Report Manager on the SSRS Security Manager Admin Guide.

To help SQL Server Reporting Services administrators easily identify the individual server that is hosting a given report, we have created the Reports folder for each report. This helps administrators easily identify the server that is hosting the report. In the SSRS Security Manager interface, each report folder has a link to the SSRS Reporting Services Server, which is automatically created on the folder when you create a new folder.

In SSRS Security Manager, if you select a report folder from the SSRS Reporting Services Server and then select a report, you will see a check mark by the report in the list of reports.

By default, when you add a new folder, you can indicate whether it is a shared folder. To indicate a shared folder, select the box at the top of the Properties dialog box.

Select the Items to Include or Exclude from the folder list and then select the Shared box to indicate that the folder is shared.

Select the icon to determine whether you want the report to display the list of reports on the server or to hide the list of reports on the server.

The default value for the Private Folder setting is Display.

SSRS Security Manager also allows administrators to share a folder and to link a folder to a server. To share a folder, select the check box at the top of the dialog box. Select the Shared folder and then select the Server to which to share

Do you have suggestions for other applications like this?

Just want to say, some great stuff here! I’m using SSRS Security Manager a lot for testing the applications before deploying them to production. It’s made my job much easier. Well done!

This product is an excellent utility. I would use it in all my reporting-as-a-service projects, though I would like to see the ability to identify the “version” of SSRS and the type of deployment in more granular detail, and maybe to report on the SSL support that was set on the report-as-a-service servers. This utility would give me a great degree of confidence that my report-as-a-service setup was indeed getting data from the web service and not from, say, a secured version of the datasource on the SQL server that just calls the web service directly.

I’m a large-scale reporting administrator who is now using this tool for a large number of reports – and I think it’s going to make our jobs a lot easier, and to have the authority to add users to role groups or delete roles.

The tool is really simple to use, the report is fast to generate, and it’s very easy to export to Excel. The “schema browser” is a great feature for adding users/roles/groups to roles, and we use that a lot!

But I have one small suggestion. Whenever you save, you lose the ‘name’ for the user and the ‘name’ for the user is grayed out when you try to go back to it.

SSRS Security Manager is a security-oriented tool designed for SQL Server Reporting Services that aims to exceed the capabilities of the SSRS Report Manager in terms of functionality. Its goal is to provide users with the means to generate an overview of the security status of the servers and obtain the audited information in a clear-cut report.

Upon launch, SSRS Security Manager prompts users to enter the URL of the web server and the correct credentials to allow authentication. There is no need to access the reporting services database, but the login data must be provided. Additional settings configure SSL, inheritance and timeout-related options.

Once connected to the server, the application displays all the resources in tree-view, color-coding items for a faster and easier identification of inherited security properties, which can be tampered with.

Moreover, one gets access to roles, tasks, users, and groups, which allows the quick implementation of changes, resulting in increased productivity. In other words, users can manage system roles and related tasks much easier.

SSRS Security Manager can help server managers generate comprehensive audit and protocol compliance reports, which can be exported to Excel. Compared to SQL Azure, this whole process is much simpler and faster.

I asked him what he was thinking about as he walked down the street. He

said he was thinking about the search for the name of God; the search for a

definition of God.

I asked him if he thought there was a God. He said, “Yes.”

I asked him if he was searching for God. He said, “Yes.”

I asked him what he thought he was searching for. He answered, “The

answer.”

I asked him if he believed he would find the answer. He replied, “No.”

“Why?”

“Because what you believe determines what you find.”

I was stunned to hear this young man assert so clearly that a person’s

beliefs control his or her findings, whether right or wrong.

I asked him if he was ever right and he said, “No.” I asked him why he

assumed that the wrongness of his findings was related to the beliefs he

used to formulate them. “Because I have a book by Mr. J.C. Ryle, called

“The Great Mistake,” that tells me so.”

I told him that he could not find God because he was looking for God in

the wrong place, and that his proper place to look for God was in a proper

place. He said, “Well, where is that?” I pointed him to the roof of a

church, then to the ground, then into the sky. He said, “I can’t go that
